Propensity Score
The propensity score is the probability that a unit receives treatment:
$$P(T_i = 1 \mid X_i).$$It summarizes treatment assignment in terms of observed covariates $X_i$. In STA305, it appears as a bridge between the assignment mechanism and causal adjustment in settings where treatment assignment is not automatically random.
