Main Effect
The main effect of a factor is the change in mean response when moving from the low level to the high level of that factor, averaging over the levels of the other factors.
In a two-level design, a main effect is typically computed as
$$ \text{effect} = \bar{y}_{+} - \bar{y}_{-}. $$
